DISTRICT BOWLING AT STARDUST BOWL IN ADDISON

The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club fielded two teams at the
annual District Bowling held Sunday, January 18 at the Stardust
Bowl in Addison. Third VP Susan Galvez chaired the club's
participation in the tournament. The following Lions participated
in the tournement: Pres. Marilyn Liwanag, First VP Bobby
Tolentino, Third VP Susan Galvez, Lilia Narciso, Cora Ramos,
IPP Jun Fajardo, Efren Santos, Jay Cadiz, Orly Liwanag, Ed
Tolentino, Rudy Samson and Jess Galvez.
92nd INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION PERFORMANCE
FESTIVAL, Minneapolis, MN
July 7, 2009
The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club performed
two dances at the Performance Festival during the
92nd International Convention at the Minneapolis, MN
Convention Center. The club performed a colorful, lively
Filipino folk dance called La Jota Moncadena, peformed
with the accompaniment of bambo castanets. The ladies
wore colorful native gowns and the men wore Filipino
formal attire 'Barong Tagalog'.
The other dance was a glitzy dance potpourri of jazz,
salsa, bossa nova and tango to the tune of Blue Tango.
The dance was choreographed by dance instructor
Christine Tiojanco of Glendale Heights.
PICNIC IN THE PARK AT SPRING CREEK RESERVOIR
August 2, 2009
The club held their annual picnic at the Spring Creek
Reservoir on Lake St., Sunday, August 2 for a day of fun,
food and friendship. Games, karaoke singing and dancing
were part of the entertainment enjoyed by family, friends
and patrons of the club.
CHARITY GOLF OUTING AT GLENDALE LAKES GC
September 12, 2009
The 18th Charity Golf Outing at Glendale Lakes GC took place
with 36 players teeing off on a glorious Sunday morning.
Pres. Bobby Tolentino, assisted by Tem Bangit and Gary
Estacio, managed the successful fundraising. 20 hole
sponsors signed up for the charity golf. The players were
treated to grilled lunch and awards dinner after the tournament
where cash prizes were given out to the best golfers.
GLENDALE HTS VILLAGE INTERNATIONAL DAY

Five pairs of dancers donned colorful Filipino costumes and
danced their way into the Glendale Heights Village International Day
celebration of the village's ethnic diversity at the outdoor stage on
Camera Park. Food, fun and colorful fiesta of native costumes
and ethnic dances grace the celebration. Our grateful thanks

Fajardo, Evelyn Sibolo and Efcy Formacion, Christine and
Henry Kare, Susan and Jess Galvez.
USED EYEGLASSES COUNTING AND SORTING
October 3, 2009
The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club counted 1,200
used eyeglasses deposited at the club's collection box at
a strip mall on Army Trail/Bloomingdale Rd. The members
held the counting last Oct. 3 at Adeline Fajardo's place.
The five bags of used eyeglasses will be donated to the
Lions of Illinois Foundation to be cleaned, recalibrated and
distributed to Third World countries. Besides collecting
used eyeglasses, the club in partnership with LensCrafters
of Stratford Square Mall provides free eye exam and eyeglasses to the poor of Glendale Heights community.

WALK YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL AT GLEN HILL

Five Lion volunteers came early to Glen Hill
Elementary School
to prepare breakfast snacks and drinks, set up the gym for the
hordes of eager kindergarten to 4th graders who will walk to
school with their parents and enjoy the camaraderie and fun
with their teachers before morning classes. The club provided
the snacks and drinks and helped prepare the gym for the
gathering. Special thanks to: Henry Kare, Lilia Narciso, Jake
Retuta, Jay Cadiz and Jess Galvez.
ANNUAL FAMILY HEALTH AND SAFETY FAIR

Hundreds of green and white balloons swirled around the huge
Sports Hub of Glendale Heights Village as the annual 'Go
Green' Fair welcomed the public from 5-8 pm with colorful
gifts, useful handouts and demonstrations on family health
and safety. The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions handed
out brochures on Diabetes Awareness, diabetic retinopathy,
recycling of used eyeglasses, Camp Lions for hearing and
vision impaired kids. The club handed out 'Candy Day'
candies to advertise Candy Day campaign during the
weekend. Heartfelt thanks to: Freda Marzan, Lilia Narciso,
Christine Kare, Jay Cadiz, Henry Kare and Jess Galvez.
PEACE POSTER CONTEST
November 7, 2009
The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club held their eighth Peace Poster
Contest on November 7, 2009 at the Marquardt District 15 Administration
Center, on Glen Ellyn Road, Glendale Heights.
Students from three area schools -- Glenside Middle School, Marquardt
Middle School and St. Matthew Parochial School -- submitted 147 colorful
entries on Lions Clubs International theme of 'The Power of Peace'.
First place winners from the three schools were picked by the art teachers
and school staff and awarded cash prizes by the Glendale Heights Barangay
Lions Club. The winners were: Tony Morales from Glenside Middle School,
Carlie Marquez from Marquardt Middle School and Katie Steininger from
St. Matthews.
Lion Pam Kelley, District 1J Peace Poster chairperson, praised the artistic
works of the students and the rich ideas depicted in the colorful posters.
District 1J Governor George Endean and Lady Sharon presented the awards
and congratulated the students for their impressive art work.
The awards ceremony was attended by students and parents, art teachers
and school administration. The club thanked Dr. Loren May, Superintendent,
Marquardt School District 15 for the use of the beautiful, high-tech District 15
Center.
HOLIDAY FUNDRAISING CAROLING
December, 2009
The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions held a fundraising
caroling during the first three weeks of December. They caroled
18 homes and caroled at the annual District 1J Holiday Party at
Villa Olivia December 13. The group grossed more than $4,000
in donations. Through the partnership with LensCrafters of Stratford
Mall, the club provided free eye exam and prescription glasses
to Barry Gram of Carol Stream, Rheizelle Bonsol of Glendale
Heights and hearing aids to Andrew Gloeckle of Glendale Heights.
