EASTERN ZONE II CHAIRPERSON LION PERRY VISITS CLUB
September 6, 2008

     Lion Perry Knutson, Eastern Zone II Chairperson was the guest speaker at the monthly breakfast meeting, Saturday, September 6, 2008 at the Glendale Lakes Golf Club. Lion Perry talked about the need to recruit new members, Youth Exchange Program and the need to host some of the visiting youth from Scandinavia. Lion Perry fielded questions from the membership.

FIRST FUNDRAISING CASINO TRIP TO HORSESHOE, INDIANA
September 20, 2008

     The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club held the first of four planned fundraising casino trips to Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana, Sat, September 20. Twenty-nine Lions and friends hopped the bus ride provided free by Horseshoe.
     The passengers enjoyed the camaraderie, coffee and donuts served during the trip. Complimentary wine was served during the bus ride home. The club netted more than $500 in a 5-hour fundraising drive. The next casino trip is November 15.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS VILLAGE INTERNATIONAL DAY
October 5, 2008

     The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club participated in the annual Village International Day, Sunday, October 5 at Camera Park. Diverse ethnic groups from the village community strutted colorful costumes, artwork, music and native dances. The club participated in the Parade of Fashion, sponsored a Filipino Dance Troupe to perform a colorful native dance. The village treated the community to ethnic cuisine provided by local restaurants.

WALK YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL AT GLEN HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
October 8, 2008

     More than 200 grade school children from Glen Hill Elementary School walked with their parents to the school gym Oct. 8 for a community get-together with the teachers, school administrators and the Glendale Heights Barangay Lions volunteers to celebrate the annual Walk Your Child To School program. The Lions prepared morning snacks of cookies, donuts, fruits and fruit juices for the students and teachers.

 
ANNUAL LIONS CANDY DAY STREET FUNDRAISING
October 10-11, 2008 (Fri-Sat)

     Twenty volunteer Lions participated in the two-day Lions Club Candy Day street fundraising October 10-11, Fri-Sat. The Lions volunteers held the street campaigning at two busy street intersections: North Ave & Bloomingdale Rd., and Army Trail & Bloomingdale Rd. The club grossed more than $3,000 during the two-day street fundraising.

CHARITY GOLF OUTING AT GLENDALE LAKES GC
October 12, 2009

     On a bright and sunny Sunday, October 12, the club hosted its annual Charity Golf Outing at the Glendale Lakes Golf Club in Glendale Heights. More than 40 golfers teed off at the links. Golfers enjoyed grilled lunch after 9 holes. Cash prizes to the best golfers were awarded during the dinner after the golf outing.

PEACE POSTER CONTEST
November 8, 2008

     The Glendale Heights Barangay Lions Club held the annual Peace Poster Contest last Saturday, November 8 at the Glenside Middle School Cafetorium, attended by students, teachers and school district administrators from Marquardt Middle School, Glenside Middle School and St. Matthew Parochial School. More than 76 colorful posters were submitted by the students from the three schools.
     District 1J Gov. Nancy Rex, Lion Pam Kelley, District Peace Poster Chairperson and PDG Ed Kelley were guests at the awarding of cash prizes to the three first prize winners. Lions Lilia Narciso and Freda Marzan chaired the well-attended and successful Peace Poster Contest. Pizzas, cookies and fruit juices were served at the reception after the program.

SECOND HORSESHOE CASINO TRIP
November 15, 2008

     The club held the second fundraising casino trip to Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, Indiana on Saturday, November 15. More than 20 Lions and friends joined the bus ride to Horseshoe. The casino provided free round trip tourist bus ride, the club collected funds by charging $15/person.
     Besides the free bus ride, the casino provided a $7.00 coupon to each passenger which was used to purchase a hearty buffet lunch worth $19.00. The club served coffee and donuts on the way to Indiana, complimentary wine on the ride back to Glendale Heights. In 4-5 hours, the club netted $500-$600 in funds.
